Easy to use, occasional glitches
I use the PCS app regularly for scoring recreational cricket, especially kids’ games. It usually works well, and offers everything you need to score matches at an ordinary club level. There’s an offline/download the match option that works well - not many people seem to know about this, but it’s great for rural grounds or grounds with poor Wifi. However, there are some glitches occasionally that it would be good to see resolved:
– Once or twice a year it freezes mid-game, usually at the end of an over when it’s syncing with the website. When this happens, everything goes haywire and sometimes it records a completely blank over that you can’t edit, delete or overwrite.
– If you’re scoring a pairs game and you input the names of fielders who take catches or engineer a run out, these are deleted by the system. You have to add these details back in manually after completing the scoring.
– It’s really difficult to undo any kind of error you make with a wicket once the game has moved on.
- The end-of-over-summary pop-up hides all the match details until you enter the name of the next bowler.
– The wagon wheel could be improved so that it adapts better to left-handers.

So Easy
Amazing software for easy Cricket scoring, the OP scoring app
Dls
please updaite it for support dls v6
A couple of fixes
The app is generally great to use, but a couple of things could help improve it further.
On the iPad app when you end the over you get a sheet to select the next bowler, this obscures the latest score. Popping a summary in the select bowler screen would be so helpful.
For slight shambolic friendly cricket a bit more flexibility over changing team member names in the interface would be really handy!
Problems
The app seems to work well on iPhone. But there are so many problems when using my iPad. When I try to download a game to iPad it won’t let me unless I log out and then back in. I’m aware that team members of the opposing team have been entered but they do not appear on my iPad. I have to download the game on my iPhone and copy them all then manually inserting each player onto iPad. Often not all names appear to be in the system even though I know that they should be -having been there for years. I have to enter them as custom players.
If you want to add another player at the ‘edit team’ page, you can’t. You have to close down the app and then restart it. Why can’t we have a ‘back’ function to simply go back and insert another player.
Just recently it wouldn’t recognise that it was end of over. At the same time it wouldn’t update the score until I had manually ended the over and selected the next bowler.
Again recently I had to enter my team four times because each time I went back they had all disappeared.
Linking a live scoreboard is a nightmare. If I enter the name of the scoreboard, NSL, it doesn’t recognise it. You have to tell it it’s a Generic scoreboard. It may accept that but then you have to go back and change it to NSL. You think you have it all set up and then part way through the match the umpires tell you that the scoreboard hasn’t updated.
All this as well as an occasional wholesale crash of the whole system.
Why oh why do we have to click on ‘match locked before every single ball. Why can’t we just agree that it is locked and allow us to get on with scoring the game.
Come on team, it’s really not good enough and is unfair to the dedicated scorers out there. Our club struggles to recruit scorers and with the problems highlighted here there’s little wonder.
On the plus side the app looks great and when it works it’s fine.
Boring
Boring game to score better to play I had to score an u15 game and it was boring
Terible app
Great when it works, awful when it crashes
This app works brilliantly until you make an error and use the Undo button, at which point the button panel jams and renders the whole thing useless for the rest of the innings. Use the Pen icon to adjust any errors, and you might want to keep a book going alongside, just in case.
Crashed!
Crashed at drinks in the 2nd innings, 17 overs!
Great app but unable to add Umpires in app
Great app used weekly to score matches. Needs ability to add Umpires in app rather than having to log in on a computer.
Can’t use it
Repeated issues with log-in
A bit more help when using the app
I am always having to go back and forth because the app crashes and gives me weird messages but overall a good app
Utter rubbish
Utter rubbish
How can you possibky believe this is usable ???
Resuming scoring duty - good but needs a practice run
After a couple of decades away, scoring has modernised - a lot. Handy features but takes some getting used to, 2 matches minimum. Heavy on battery in the sunshine but great for stats in the long run
Play Cricket App Review
Very flakey software. Hardly ever known a match score well without a hitch of some type or another.
Not easy
This is my first year using this app and some features are really good. I like the way the actual scoring is set up. However some aspects really let this app down. I am scoring under 9’s pairs and ladies softball and it the way the matches setup is it won’t let me edit the parts I need to etc. Also the app on the iPad is different to the app on the phone.
SCC
We try to use it for our 4 Saturday sides on dedicated ipads- twice this season two of our teams suffered the same glitch - where overs were not ending automatically and the end over option or indeed any other action had no effect and the over just continued. This of course causes panic in the scorebox and necessitates getting paper book going and lots of reconciliation headaches after. So despite being an enthusiastic i am in two minds about using it tomorrow - a shame
Keeps freezing
Great app but keeps freezing when in middle of game which results in delays and wrong results
Nice!
Surprisingly intuitive to use tho gets a little confusing when batters run leg byes… but fun to be able to have people follow live and easier (for a beginner at least) than pen and paper!
Glitches
My co-scorer had to stop scoring because the system added an extra over - mid over
I love Playcricket
Playcricket is world class.
Good but some gremlins
The app is very good - but random breakdown in app leads to a great amount of confusion.
Swap players
There is no way to edit the ball by ball afterwards... (close innings)
It often happens that a player goes onto the field, and you confuse players, and score against the wrong name. It would be good to ‘swap’ players. Another useful option would be to have a ‘unknown player’ and then swap it for the actual player once known.
Crashed during the match ….. again.
When it works it’s great, but still not reliable enough. Need to do a paper back up just in case every match.
One observation
Using on an Apple tablet
After completing am over the Select Bowler for next over screen covers most of the screen real estate meaning we can’t see the score to inform a manual scoreboard until we select the bowler, who may not be immediately apparent.
Poor result
Why was the ‘win’ half way down the list of results? And thee are 3 options at the end, none of which are obvious what it is.
Trying my best, but
Inputting players a nightmare. Scoring a match consistently stressful.
Crash
More than one occasion this season the system has crashed and when eventually able to get back on there’s alway some sort of issue
Great app, women’s softball not set up correctly
We’re almost at the end of the women’s softball summer league but the match set up isn’t correct. The England women’s team is showing the way, please give some investment to set up the women’s league in the system. Thank you.
Great app but has issues
Very good app however editing is not the best and can result in stopping matches for short periods.
Byes and wides?
It’s not very obvious if there is a way to award a bye and a wide on the same ball?????
Never use paper again to score
Simple to use once you get the hang of it. Well done ECB
Continuing problems logging in and syncing
Problems on numerous occasions looting in to the app and subsequently syncing
Simple and very easy
Very easy to score compared to manually scoring using scoresheets, you can edit later if needed , simple and straight forward to learn and use
Too many bugs!
A great idea, but it isn’t mature enough to use. I’ve had no end of issues with the app trying to enter scores for the first time. Some things are great, but I’ve wasted so much time trying to enter details for one match that is gave up!
Revolutionises Amateur Cricket
The ECB have done a wonderful job in creating this app. It makes logging scores after the game so much easier, without having to decipher scribbles in an unbalanced scorecard. Furthermore, the app and the UI is fantastic and really intuitive to use. Even the desktop app makes it easy for novices to log the score.
Brilliant app - well done!
One problem and everything goes wrong
The app is a great idea and generally works ok. However you get one problem with the app or make one mistake you can get into a situation where you are stuck and there is no way out. I’ve just scored a match where this happened with the light fading and it wasn’t possible to stop the game.
Unbelievably frustrating. I was trying to go back one ball when there had been a wicket (as the wicket got entered into the wrong bowler due to a no ball in the previous over
Carnage and no way out. Must do better
Just hard to edit in real time
Hard to edit afterwards as well
Takes quite a few matches to feel ‘at home’
We’ve phased ourselves into scoring on the app over the last season and a half and we’re now training new scorers up. We don’t have match WiFi but we don’t need it, the app works well without and the scorecard isn’t live.
The thing that trips newish scorers up is when the batter or bowler entered is the wrong player and the app doesn’t want you to change them! In the calm of a living room it’s easy to do the necessary swaps, in the heat of the match it’s very hard to think clearly.
As an experienced scorer I feel pretty secure now but there are things I try to put in place to avoid most problems. As we don’t have WiFi in the Scorebox I download the match at home before and add our players. I then log out of the app. When I am at the ground I stay logged out and find the downloaded match through the ‘other matches’ button. I then continue the match set up with the opposition players and get on with the scoring. Once the match is finished I ‘end match’ then, when back home, I log in again and ‘Finalise’.
When the match is in progress, I make notes of each visiting player who’s bowling/ batting so I know who’s who for the scorecard. The big thing is watching for everything on the pitch and, I feel, it’s this skill that needs to be acquired by new scorers as well as having the app knowhow.
Overall I really like the app and it saves lots of time post-match on play-cricket!
External Scoreboard
App crashes when trying to connect to external scoreboard. Worked fine yesterday.
PlayScorer
A few technical issues but once it was working it’s simple to use.
Pairs last over
Hello,
I have been using this app on the Samsung galaxy tablet, not sure if the versions are different.
For some reason it finishes the pairs 4 overs after 3 overs. I try and then add the pair for one more over which it does but doesn’t recognise it pulling through to play cricket. Are you aware of this issue
Thanks
Need to have an option for The Hundred!
Great app but need this as an option!
Bugs
Very buggy with pair cricket
Too many glitches and can’t work off line
Match froze on a no ball with a run scored off bat
My WiFi only iPad mini had to be linked to a mobile phone to score—— not good at all, not too happy with it. Surely need to score manually log in etc , this was not allowed
Easy to use app!
Great scoring app, easy to use.
Needs an account to use it
I downloaded the app, but can’t use it because I don’t have an account and can’t see anywhere to set one up. Nothing even came up in the search bar.
So easy on the iPad
Excellent
Great app
This is a great app! I use it loads and it’s really useful and fun. Perfect for scoring any type of match, whether it’s pairs or a seniors game. I do have a small problem though: when you finish the match, you can only see the scorecard, and everything else disappears. It would be nice if next to it you could look at the ball by ball and the wagon wheel.
But overall a great app and I recommend it.👍
Filled with errors and crashes regularly
The single most frustrating app I’ve ever used.
1. Designed for tablet, but heavily relies on 4g or WiFi, which some clubs don’t offer.
Never beta tested or given real world use in my view. Designed nowhere near a cricket match.
2. Too many sub menu screens with keyboard overlaying it constantly. Have to go back between team sheet and entry pages to double check or confirm who has been added. Needs a press and hold function to make any change you like. Or a slide function on the front page to change order or batting etc
3. No saved entry: step away, want to see the stats for a previous bowler/batsman or lose WiFi and everything is lost back to last uploaded point or a crash occurs and everything lost.
4. No auto save. No one enjoys losing an afternoons diligence for a tech issue to completely erase your efforts.
5. No truly manual override: any discrepancy say in runs total, extras etc will crash program.
6. Constant confirmation of action
7. Doesn’t understand the game. Catches ask for bowler first which is unconventional, doesn’t recognise a stumping can only be performed by the wk.
8. So slow to enter information.
9. Try to continue scoring, say switch device or just reopen your score sheet and it will not do it, only resolution is to clear the entire game and start from scratch.
Absolutely infuriating, could be brilliant, but built on the cheap by people with nil understanding of users needs in a game situation.
Utterly unforgiving
Could be such a good app. The idea is great but things go wrong so easily. And when they do, you're stuffed. Names come into your team randomly, and once the game starts you can't change them. If you think you've clicked the 'go back' button there's no confirmation so you don't know if you've gone back or not. The custom games can't be saved. If you accidentally click cancel you lose everything in an instant - again, no confirm option. I could go on..... So use the app but prepare to go grey/bald/demented in the process.
Great App but one Question..
This app just does the job and works in a logical and easy to use way.
My only question so far is: What happens to the wagon wheel data. I have used it to mark where runs were scored etc. but can’t find any way of viewing the results?
Full of bugs
Stay well clear of this until everything is sorted out. There are problems too numerous to mention. Good job we had a pen and paper to hand.
Players
Good app, but we should be able to remove/delete players. When you select new custom match, and add teams, all previous clubs players are there.
BEST APP EVER!!!!!!
The most useful thing for matches. As a cricket coach I use it every match. Whoever made this app is a G!!!!
Brilliant app!
Easy to use
Could be better
Very good and useful app
Only if it stops crashing in the middle of the game.
Good scorer
Good reliable scorer but you cannot view the wagon wheel
Pe teacher
Why can’t i view the wagon wheel????
